Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police on Friday launched ‘C-Mitra’, the country’s first virtual helpdesk to help cyber fraud victims register FIRs without visiting a police station. The service is available to citizens within the Hyderabad Commissionerate limits. Victims must first report fraud through 1930 or the National Cyber Crime Portal. C-Mitra’s virtual police officers will then contact the complainant, prepare an AI-assisted draft complaint, and send it for signature. Victims can post it to the Cyber Crime Police Station, Basheerbagh, or drop it in the dedicated drop box. Once received, the FIR will be registered and details sent via SMS. Cases above ₹3 lakh will be investigated by the Cyber Crime PS, while those below ₹3 lakh will be registered as Zero FIRs and forwarded to local police stations. C-Mitra will function from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a 24-member AI-enabled team. Official calls will only come from 040-4189-3111, and 87126XXXXX series WhatsApp number only, staff will never ask for OTPs or money. Hyderabad CP V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, said: “Registering an FIR physically takes nearly three hours. C-Mitra will save citizens’ time and allow our staff to focus on investigations. Only 18% of cyber complaints currently become FIRs our target is to reach 100% through this system.”
