After Terrorism, Drug Abuse Emerges as Biggest Challenge in Kashmir: DIG NKR
Anchor:-Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Range (NKR), Maqsood-ul-Zaman on Tuesday said security forces are fully prepared to tackle all challenges, including infiltration attempts, in North Kashmir, amid evolving security threats along the region.
Speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of the Youth Hunt and Talent Programme organised in Bandipora, the DIG said security forces have plans to prevent infiltration and maintain peace. He warned that banned online platforms are being accessed using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), despite restrictions enforced across Jammu and Kashmir.
“Some individuals are misusing VPNs to access websites that have been banned in Jammu and Kashmir. These bans are in place for security reasons, and youths must strictly avoid such practices,” Zaman said, urging young people to remain vigilant and responsible online.
The DIG also highlighted the growing concern of drug abuse in the Valley, calling it a serious social threat after Terrorism. “Drugs are affecting the youth across the Valley. It does not destroy just one family, but shatters dreams and robs young people of opportunities to become successful,” he said.
Zaman said police are adopting a zero-tolerance approach towards narcotics and are working to dismantle the entire drug supply chain. “We are vanishing the roots of the drug trade by seizing properties created from drug money and taking strict action against those involved,” he added.
Emphasising preventive measures, the DIG appealed to parents to play an active role in guiding their children. He urged families to encourage youth participation in sports, cultural activities and other constructive programmes to keep them away from drugs and anti-social activities.
During the event, Zaman also hailed young players and artists who are representing Jammu and Kashmir at the national level, calling them role models for the younger generation.
