Srinagar,
Positive Changes in Jammu & Kashmir After Article 370 Abrogation
Srinagar, Six years after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed significant changes in terms of security, economy, and public sentiment. The central government’s move to fully integrate the region into the Indian Union has brought both challenges and transformations, but recent developments indicate growing stability and peace across the Valley.
Stone Pelting Declines Sharply
One of the most visible changes has been the near-disappearance of stone-pelting incidents, which once disrupted daily life and caused widespread tension. Official data from security agencies shows a 90% drop in such incidents since 2019, reflecting a significant improvement in law and order.
Militancy on a Downward Graph
The security situation has improved notably, with a consistent decline in militancy-related activities. The number of active militants is at its lowest in more than a decade, and recruitment into terror groups has dropped due to heightened surveillance and successful anti-terror operations. Several areas once considered hotbeds of militancy are now relatively peaceful.
Public Sentiment Shows Signs of Hope
Many locals, especially youth and business owners, express cautious optimism. “There is peace now. Children go to school without fear. We don’t hear gunshots every night like before,” .
Government development schemes and infrastructure projects have improved connectivity, healthcare, and education access in remote areas, boosting public confidence.
Business and Tourism Rebound
The business community reports a steady improvement in market activity and tourist footfall. According to tourism department figures, over 2 crore tourists visited Jammu & Kashmir in 2024, the highest ever in a single year.
Hotels, handicraft businesses, and transport services are thriving. Local entrepreneur “Tourism is the backbone of our economy. Stability has helped businesses flourish again.”
Government's Push for Development
The administration, under the Union Territory model, has fast-tracked several infrastructure projects — including roads, rail, electricity, and digital services. New investment policies have attracted companies in IT, horticulture, and hospitality sectors.
