Exclusive Ground Zero Report on Two Jaish-e-Mohammad Terrorists, Including Top Commander, Killed in Kishtwar Encounter
In a major success to Security forces in weeding out terrorism, Two terrorists belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammad, including a top commander, were killed on Sunday during an intense encounter in the Chatroo forest area of Kishtwar district.
Official sources said the terrorists were neutralised in a fierce gunfight with a joint team of 2nd Para (SF) Commandos, the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Special Operations Group (SOG).
One body of the slain terrorist has been recovered, while efforts are underway to retrieve the second body from a nearby Dhok (temporary mud shelter).
The operation was led by the 2nd Para Commandos with support from other security agencies.
Forces have been conducting sustained search operations in the dense forests of the area for over a month. This is being termed one of the biggest anti-terror operations in Kishtwar district in recent times.
The first contact with terrorists in the same belt was established on January 18. Earlier, on February 4, one JeM terrorist was killed in an encounter at Dichad Dolgam area of Chatroo.
According to officials, the latest contact was established when a search party of 2nd Para Commandos, assisted by sniffer dogs, approached a suspected Dhok inside the forest. The terrorists, hiding inside the structure, opened fire on the sniffer dogs, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Security forces were acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of two JeM terrorists in the area. Following the initial exchange, heavy reinforcements were rushed to the site. Helicopters and drones were deployed for aerial surveillance to track any possible movement of additional terrorists.
Reliable sources said the Dhok, believed to be used as a hideout, was destroyed using rocket launchers, with a strong possibility that the terrorists, including the top JeM commander, were neutralised in the action.
Confirming the development, the Army’s White Knight Corps posted on X that two terrorists were killed under “Operation Trashi-I.” The statement said the joint operation was launched based on credible intelligence inputs from Jammu and Kashmir Police, Intelligence Bureau, and Army’s own sources.
Troops of CIF Delta, in close coordination with Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF, re-engaged the terrorists around 11:00 AM in extremely challenging terrain and successfully neutralised them.
The Army further said that war-like stores, including two AK-47 rifles, were recovered from the encounter site.
