Thirteen Years On, Shadipora Bridge Over Jhelum Still Awaits Completion,Locals Seek Urgent Intervention Thirteen years after work began, the Shadipora footbridge over the River Jhelum in the Shadipora-Sumbal area of Bandipora district remains incomplete, forcing residents to face daily inconvenience and uncertainty. According to locals, nearly 90 percent of the bridge construction has been completed. However, the project is yet to be fully functional as two access stairs remain unfinished. Residents said that once these stairs are constructed, the bridge will be ready for smooth public use, allowing people to cross the river safely and comfortably. The footbridge connects the districts of Bandipora and Ganderbal and serves as an important link for thousands of people who depend on it to cross the River Jhelum for work, education, healthcare, and other essential needs. In the absence of a fully operational bridge, locals continue to struggle, especially during adverse weather conditions. Residents alleged that they have informed higher authorities several times about the pending work, but their repeated appeals have not been taken seriously. They expressed disappointment over what they described as official neglect of a project that is vital for daily movement and connectivity.
