List of the Bangladeshi Radical groups
These groups collectively push for reforms under Sharia law, restrictions on women's rights, and anti-India slogans. Several reports attribute these groups' links to Pakistan and other foreign powers. The Yunus government has been increasingly accused of failing to control these forces, leading to increased attacks on minorities and growing instability in the country.
1. Influence of Mamunul Haq and Mufti Jashimuddin Rahmani:-
Mufti Jashimuddin Rahmani, the leader of an al-Qaeda-linked group, was released during the Yunus government. Rahmani heads the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist organization, Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). The release of this terrorist poses challenges for India, as the organization is attempting to build a jihadist network through sleeper cells.
Mamunul Haq was jailed for inciting violence but was later released and is now active. Mamunul Haq is considered a leader in Bangladesh who implements Islamic principles into government policies, advocates Sharia law, and promotes traditional Islamic practices.
2. Hifazat-e-Islam wants to introduce Sharia law:-
According to a report by the East Asia Forum, this group is composed of Sunni Islamists and their vast madrasa network and supporters, who work against women's rights and secular reforms. Hefazat-e-Islam has held large protests over proposals for equal property rights for women. The group's leader, Mamunul Haq, also met with Yunus as he pushes for the implementation of Sharia law in Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina had banned the group, but it was released under Yunus' government.
3. Hizb-ut-Tahrir, which raised ISIS flags in Bangladesh:-
According to sources, Hizb-ut-Tahrir is rapidly expanding by recruiting Bangladeshi youth through social media and educational institutions. The group was banned in 2009, but was reinstated in 2024 by the Yunus government. It advocates for the restoration of the Caliphate and Sharia law. During Yunus' tenure, Hizb-ut-Tahrir organized large demonstrations in Dhaka in 2024, raising ISIS-like flags. The Yunus government is being accused of failing to stop this.
4. Inquilab Manch, which supports radical Islamic culture:-
According to the sources input, this group was founded after the July 2024 student protests. Sharif Usman Hadi, a prominent leader of Inquilab Manch, himself held anti-India and radical views. After Hadi's assassination, Inquilab Manch threatened to overthrow the Yunus government. Previously, the group supported Yunus, but now the government and Inquilab Manch are in direct conflict. As a result, violence erupted after Hadi's death, leading to the burning of newspaper offices. Inquilab Manch also seeks to impose a radical Islamic culture in the country.
5. Jamaat-e-Islami- Promote Radicalization:-
This group was banned during Sheikh Hasina's tenure, but Yunus lifted the ban upon coming to power. Now, the group demands electoral reforms but is also active in attacks on minorities and anti-India protests. Jamaat-e-Islami has also been accused of having links with Pakistan's intelligence agency, the ISI.
