The Bodies of Bus Accident Victims Handed Over to Families: District Collector Dr. A. Siri Kurnool: District Collector Dr. A. Siri stated that after completion of DNA tests and confirmation of identities, the bodies of the victims who died in the recent private travels bus accident at Chinnatekur were handed over to their respective families and sent to their native places by ambulance. The Collector said that ''the V. Kaveri Travels bus accident occurred recently in which 19 people lost their lives. Forensic samples were collected from the deceased and DNA samples from their relatives, which were sent to the FSL Lab in Vijayawada. After all the DNA samples matched and reports were received today, the bodies were officially handed over to the respective families. From morning till afternoon, 10 bodies were handed over to 7 families, the Collector said. The remaining 7 families informed that they would arrive between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. today, and the bodies will be handed over to them upon their arrival. Families of the remaining victims are expected to arrive tomorrow, and similar arrangements will be made to hand over the bodies,'' she added. Dr. Siri also mentioned that one unidentified body was later traced, with the help of the police department, to belong to a person named Trimurthulu. DNA samples from his family members were collected this morning, and once the DNA results are received tomorrow morning, that body too will be handed over to the family. The Collector added that a 48-year-old victim, Amrit Kumar from Bihar, was cremated in Kurnool itself, with the Municipal Corporation making all necessary arrangements for the final rites. She further stated that details of the bank accounts of all the bereaved families have been collected, and a report has been sent to the government to process the ex-gratia compensation for the victims’ families.
