Srinagar,
J&K Assembly Adjourned sine die; five government bills passed, over 700 questions addressed.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather adjourned the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly sine die, marking the conclusion of a nine-day session that witnessed elections to four Rajya Sabha seats from the Union Territory and the passage of several key bills.
The session, which largely proceeded smoothly except for a few noisy exchanges, saw the passage of five government bills and discussions on two private members’ resolutions.
During the sitting, the Assembly Secretariat received 732 questions, of which 682 were admitted, while 29 were taken up for discussion with 73 supplementaries raised by the members. A total of 97 Zero Hour issues were also brought up during the proceedings.
14 private bills were received and 33 from previous sessions remain pending. Of the 41 private bills listed for discussion, only eight were debated, and all were either withdrawn following government assurances or defeated by voice vote at the introduction stage.
Additionally, 67 calling attention notices were submitted, with 10 taken up for discussion. Fourteen private member resolutions were admitted, though only one was passed.
The only major disruption occurred when BJP legislators walked out of the House after Speaker Rather rejected an adjournment motion moved by Udhampur MLA Pawan Gupta seeking a debate on the condition of flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir.
Concluding the session, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather expressed gratitude to all members for their cooperation, saying, “I thank all members for their support in conducting the proceedings of the House smoothly."
