After working from a rented small accommodation, The Jal Shakti Department has finally initiated the construction of a new Jal Shakti Sub-Division Office in Banihal under the UT Capex scheme at an estimated cost of ₹50 lakh. Junior Engineer Abid Wani, who is Nodal Officer of the project, said construction work is progressing steadily and the plinth level is almost completed. Brickwork is expected to commence from next month. For the past 12 years, the Jal Shakti (PHE) Department had been operating from a small rented building near the SBI Bank, which was insufficient to accommodate staff and serve the public efficiently. The construction of the department’s own office building will eliminate these issues. The new office will have four separate rooms to accommodate the Assistant Executive Engineer, Junior Engineers, and other staff, ensuring smoother functioning and improved public service delivery. If weather remains favorable, the building will be completed within the stipulated time by March 2026. The office is being constructed on 2.5 kanal of land provided by the district administration.
