The Department of Bioresources, University of Kashmir, today organized the 2nd J&K International Conference on Breast and Allied Cancers at Gandhi Bhawan, University of Kashmir, marking a significant step toward strengthening cancer awareness, research collaboration, and multidisciplinary approaches to cancer management. The inaugural session witnessed the presence of several distinguished dignitaries. Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Organizing Secretary of the conference and faculty, Department of Bioresources, formally welcomed the gathering and outlined the objectives of the conference. He highlighted the rising incidence of breast and allied cancers in the region and emphasized the urgent need to integrate basic research with clinical practice, early detection, and community awareness. On the occasion, the abstract book (souvenir) of the conference was formally released by the dignitaries, showcasing cutting-edge research contributions from participants. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Nilofer Khan, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, stressed that cancer research must be multidisciplinary, involving life sciences, clinical medicine, engineering, artificial intelligence, and public health. She emphasized that awareness initiatives should not remain limited to conference halls but must be taken across institutions, communities, and even beyond national boundaries, to make a global impact. Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Registrar, University of Kashmir, reaffirmed the university’s full support for research collaborations and innovation, particularly in health-related domains. He highlighted the importance of encouraging women scientists and urged that the deliberations and outcomes of the conference be disseminated widely to academic institutions, healthcare systems, and society at large. On the occasion, a book authored by Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Mir on retinoids was also formally released by the dignitaries, highlighting the therapeutic potential of retinoids in cancer biology and treatment. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Mir, who expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, distinguished guests, speakers, sponsors, organizing team, and participants for their valuable contributions. He reiterated the conference’s commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and awareness aimed at combating breast and allied cancers.
