Fisheries Department Baramulla Revives Brown Trout Seeding in Nallah Ferozpora After 25 Years After a gap of 25 years, the Fisheries Department Baramulla has reintroduced brown trout seeding in Nallah Ferozpora, Tangmarg, with an aim to boost fishing activities and promote tourism in Drung and Gulmarg areas. The initiative was formally launched by Assistant Director Fisheries Baramulla, Showkat Ahmad, who kick-started the mega brown trout seeding drive in the stream. On the occasion, a large number of farmers and locals associated with fish farming expressed happiness and appreciation for the department’s efforts. They said the move would not only revive the long-lost fishing culture but also generate employment opportunities for the local youth. Speaking at the event, Assistant Director Showkat Ahmad said that such initiatives will play a vital role in promoting fishing-based tourism in the region. “Drung, Gulmarg, and Tangmarg have immense potential for eco-tourism and recreational fishing. The revival of brown trout seeding will significantly contribute to the local economy,” he added. Locals also lauded the department for its commitment to restoring aquatic biodiversity and hoped that continuous efforts would further enhance trout fishing in the area.
