Govt. Gandhi Memorial Science College Jammu, in collaboration with Govt. Degree College Bhaderwah and the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, has launched a three-day workshop on 'Sustainability Through Lavender' in Bhaderwah. The programme, sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, aims to promote environmental education, economic opportunities, and the growing success story of Lavender cultivation in the region.
A three-day workshop focusing on the theme 'Sustainability Through Lavender' began in Bhaderwah, bringing together educators, experts, and progressive farmers to explore the environmental and economic potential of Lavender cultivation.
The event is being organized under the Environment Education Programme by Govt. Gandhi Memorial Science College Jammu, Govt. Degree College Bhaderwah, and the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology. The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, is sponsoring the workshop.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhaderwah, Sunil Kumar Bhutiyal, who was the chief guest, appreciated the initiative and welcomed the visiting delegation from Punjab. He said such programmes will strengthen cross-regional learning and help expand the Lavender revolution. Dr Basharat Hussain Principal Degree College Bhaderwah and Dr Ashiq Hussain Professor at GGM Science College Jammu were special guests.
ADC Bhaderwah, Sunil Kumar Bhutiyal said, 'Bhaderwah has earned name and fame after the successful cultivation of Lavender. It has now become the Lavender Capital of India. Farmers engaged in Lavender farming are earning significantly better than traditional crops.'
Expert speakers, including Taraq Batt, young entrepreneur Touqeer Bagban, progressive farmer Arjun Raina, and others, shared their experiences and highlighted the transformation Lavender cultivation has brought to Bhaderwah’s agriculture sector.
The workshop aims to inspire students, farmers, and environmental enthusiasts to adopt sustainable practices while tapping into new economic opportunities through Lavender farming.
Participants say the workshop will further strengthen Bhaderwah’s position as a leader in Lavender production and open new avenues for eco-friendly livelihoods.
