PRI Members in Bandipora demands National Law University, says they deserve the university more than others Anchor has reported that Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district have demanded the establishment of a National Law University (NLU), saying the region faces an educational deficit despite its learning heritage. The demand was raised during a press interaction, where PRI representatives said Bandipora’s students are forced to migrate to Srinagar or outside Jammu and Kashmir due to the absence of professional institutions. They stressed that the district does not even have a dedicated women’s college, limiting higher education access for girls from remote areas. “Bandipora has immense academic potential, but students continue to suffer because of the absence of advanced campuses,” a PRI member said. “A National Law University here would open doors for thousands of youth who cannot afford to study outside the district.” District Development Council (DDC) member Mustafa, while addressing the media, said Bandipora is struggling despite its reputation as an education-friendly district. “Bandipora is known for education, yet we are witnessing an alarming absence of campus infrastructure. Students travel long distances daily or drop out altogether,” he said. Mustafa added that the lack of institutions has particularly affected women. “There is no exclusive women’s college in the district. Many families hesitate to send their daughters far away for studies, which directly impacts female literacy and professional growth,” he said. PRI members urged the government to prioritize Bandipora in upcoming higher education and consider setting up a National Law University along with degree and professional colleges.
