During Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit, India will focus on reducing its trade deficit with Russia. India will be looking to explore new markets for pharmaceuticals, automobiles, and agriculture through various agreements. President Putin's proposal for a "No Limits Partnership" will strengthen India's "Made in India" campaign in defense and will also benefit from technology transfer in various sectors. In fact, last year, trade between India and Russia totaled approximately $63.6 billion. India's exports accounted for only $5.6 billion of this. The 12 percent increase in trade between the two countries last year was primarily due to India's significant oil imports from Russia. Government sources say that the potential decision to expand economic cooperation during Putin's visit will significantly improve the export-import gap between the two countries. To mitigate the impact of the 50% tariff imposed by the US on oil imports from Russia, India sought new markets for the goods it exported most to the US. To this end, India increased exports to several European countries and Arab countries. This helped mitigate the impact of US tariffs. The addition of Russia to this chain will further reduce the impact of tariffs.
