Bird Flu Spreading in Chennai: Important Announcement by the Public Health Department To prevent the spread of bird flu, the Public Health Department has issued advisories to the general public and poultry farm owners to take precautionary measures. It has stated that if crows or birds are found dead under mysterious circumstances, they should not be touched with bare hands and the matter should be reported to the Animal Husbandry Department. The Public Health Department has advised the public to remain alert and aware regarding bird flu and clarified that, so far, no humans have been affected by bird flu. In recent days, crows have been dying in large numbers in Chennai. Particularly in areas including Adyar, more than 100 crows have died in clusters. This has caused widespread fear among the public. The matter was reported to Corporation officials, who then collected the dead crows and sent them to the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University for examination. Officials stated, “For the past few days, a large number of crows have been dying in the park.” The number of crows dying has been increasing day by day. “These crows remain standing in one place throughout the day and then suddenly collapse and die,” officials said. In this situation, the test results have now been released, which indicate that the crows died due to infection caused by the H5N1 virus. As a result, the public has been advised not to touch dead crows under any circumstances. It has been stated that the crows are dying due to the increased spread of bird flu and that no one should touch them. In this context, the Public Health Department has issued an important announcement. The department has instructed people to take precautionary measures to prevent the spread of bird flu. The public and poultry farm owners have been advised not to touch crows, chickens, or birds that die mysteriously with bare hands. Poultry farm owners, in particular, have been asked to remain extra cautious. If crows or birds are found dead under suspicious circumstances, they should be buried at a depth of 8 to 10 feet or incinerated. Alternatively, the nearest Animal Husbandry Department should be informed. The Public Health Department has emphasized that the public should remain alert and aware regarding bird flu and reiterated that, so far, no humans have been affected. Although bird flu caused by the H5N1 virus does not easily spread to humans, if infection is confirmed, it can progress to a severe condition. Common symptoms include high fever, cough, sore throat, body fatigue, and headache. In some cases, redness of the eyes, breathing difficulty, and chest pain may occur. If timely treatment is not received, it can lead to dangerous conditions such as pneumonia and severe respiratory disorders. If such symptoms appear after touching dead birds, people should immediately consult a doctor and must not show negligence. Note: This is only an announcement from the Tamil Nadu Health Department. No visuals are available.
