BENGALURU: What was believed to be a tragic case of illness has now turned out to be a calculated murder. Six months after the mysterious death of Dr. Krithika Reddy, forensic reports have revealed that she was killed — allegedly by her own husband, Dr. Mahendra Reddy, who is now under arrest. Dr. Krithika and Dr. Mahendra were both practicing doctors. Mahendra, who worked at the prestigious Victoria Hospital, reportedly used his medical knowledge not to save a life — but to end one. Police say Mahendra injected his wife with an overdose of Propofol, a powerful sedative commonly used during surgeries, leading to her death at their residence in Munnekolalu, Marathahalli, on April 23, 2025. Initially, everyone — including the family — believed Krithika had died of illness. Mahendra claimed she had been under treatment for gastric issues and had administered IV fluids himself for three days before admitting her briefly to a private hospital. Doctors there had advised a 72-hour fasting test, but Mahendra discharged her within 36 hours and took her home. When Krithika died shortly after, Mahendra insisted there was no need for a postmortem and took the body home for the last rites, mourning alongside family members. The Marathahalli Police registered a UDR (Unnatural Death Report) and began a routine investigation — but certain inconsistencies raised suspicion. According to City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, investigators preserved key evidence, including the IV cannula and injection syringes found at the house. The samples were sent for forensic examination. The FSL report, received months later, confirmed traces of Propofol overdose in Krithika’s viscera, proving that her death was not natural but a homicide. Further investigations revealed that the couple’s relationship had soured in recent months. Sources say Mahendra had extramarital affairs and frequently harassed Krithika over money. Police suspect he used her illness as an opportunity to administer the lethal injection and pass it off as a medical complication. Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Singh confirmed that Dr. Mahendra Reddy has been arrested and is currently being interrogated. “The FSL report made it clear that this was not a case of natural death. The accused administered an excessive dose of anesthesia, leading to the victim’s death,” Singh said.
