For the past few days, rumours of a possible lockdown in Jammu and Kashmir—similar to other parts of the country—have created panic among the public. In Srinagar’s downtown areas, especially Nawab Bazar, anxiety is clearly visible as people rush to secure essential supplies. Long queues have been witnessed outside LPG outlets, with men and women, including elderly citizens, waiting for hours in the hope of getting gas cylinders. However, the situation has become more distressing as several gas agencies have reportedly remained closed for nearly 10 days. Residents allege that neither the agents are answering calls nor are the owners responding to public concerns, leaving people in a state of confusion and tension. Many households are facing serious difficulties, particularly women and elderly people, due to the unavailability of cooking gas. The lack of clear communication from authorities and suppliers has only intensified fears, with people urging the administration to intervene immediately, ensure regular supply, and address the growing crisis before it escalates further.
