Tourist Spots Reopened in J&K After Security Review; Locals Welcome LG’s Decision
Srinagar/Jammu: In a significant move aimed at boosting tourism and restoring normalcy, the Lieutenant Governor has ordered the reopening of several tourist destinations across the Kashmir and Jammu Divisions after a thorough security review and detailed discussions. These sites were earlier closed as a precautionary measure.
In the Kashmir Division, 11 popular tourist spots have been reopened with immediate effect. These include Yousmarg, Doodhpathri in Budgam, Dandipora Park in Kokernag, Peer Ki Gali, Dubjan and Padpawan in Shopian, Astanpora, Tulip Garden in Srinagar, Thajwas Glacier, Hung Park in Ganderbal, and Wullar/Watlab in Baramulla.
Similarly, in the Jammu Division, three tourist destinations — Devi Pindi in Reasi, Mahu Mangat in Ramban, and Mughal Maidan in Kishtwar — have also been reopened for visitors.
Officials further informed that four additional sites — Gurez, Athwatoo, and Bangus in Kashmir Division, and Ramkund in Ramban (Jammu Division) — will be reopened once snow clearance operations are completed.
The decision has been widely welcomed by local residents, traders, and tourism stakeholders. Locals expressed happiness over the move, stating that reopening these destinations will not only revive tourism-related activities but also provide much-needed economic relief to those dependent on the sector.
Tourism players termed the decision as timely and said it will help restore confidence among visitors while ensuring safety and security remain a top priority.
