Senior Leader Peoples Conference and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil has urged the UT Government to extend the ongoing electricity Amnesty Scheme, which is set to expire on March 31, 2026. Highlighting the financial distress faced by people across Jammu and Kashmir, Vakil said that poor farmers, BPL families, and economically weaker sections are struggling to clear their pending electricity dues due to economic challenges over the past year. He warned that if the scheme is not extended, many households may face power disconnections as they would be unable to pay outstanding bills at once. Calling for a humanitarian approach, Vakil urged the government to extend the scheme for at least six months so that maximum people can benefit and settle their dues without pressure. He appealed to the administration to consider public hardships and take a decision in the larger interest of the people.
