1.The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday arrested Javed Ahmed Siddiqui, Chairman of the Al Falah Group, under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PML), 2002. The action was taken based on evidence recovered during recent searches at premises linked to Al Falah and a detailed investigation. The case is related to an ECIR registered by the ED, and the investigation is ongoing.
2.The ED initiated action against the Al Falah Group based on two FIRs registered by the Delhi Police Crime Branch. These FIRs allege that Faridabad-based Al Falah University made false claims of being accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), thereby misleading students, parents, and other stakeholders and thereby making undue profits. One FIR alleges that the institution lured students into admission by falsely claiming a UGC 12B certificate on its official website, while the second FIR concerns a university that accepted admissions despite its National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation having expired in 2018. Police investigations are ongoing in both cases.
3. Al Falah Group Chairman Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui has been detained under criminal provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and produced in court for remand. According to PTI sources, the ED also seized ₹4.8 million in cash during the searches, which began around 5:15 a.m. today.
4. According to officials, at least nine dummy companies linked to the group, all registered at the same address, are under the ED's scrutiny.
5. The ED raided 25 locations, including the Al Falah Trust's headquarters in Okhla, the university campus, and the private residences of its directors. The campuses were located in Delhi's Jamia Nagar, Okhla Vihar, and Faridabad's Sector 22.
6. The ED team has seized documents, bank account details, laptops, mobile phones and other digital devices.
7. A few months ago, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a case against Al Falah University and its owners under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). It alleges that crores of rupees were illegally funded in the name of the university and the trust, foreign donation rules were violated, and black money was laundered through the misuse of assets.
8. According to sources, along with Jawad Siddiqui, Al Falah's accountant has also been detained. Its founder, Javed Ahmed Siddiqui, has been under investigation since the foreign funding connection Delhi blasts.
9. According to investigating agencies, Jawad Siddiqui has appointed his wife, daughter, and brothers as trustees of the charitable trust that runs Al Falah University. The removal of Al Falah University-related details from the internet has further deepened the investigation agencies' suspicions. Javed Ahmed Siddiqui was born on November 15, 1964, in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh. After completing his B.Tech from Devi Ahilya University in Indore, he served as a lecturer at Jamia Millia Islamia University from 1992 to 1994.
10. According to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Al-Falah Charitable Trust was established in 1995 and Jawad Siddiqui has been its managing trustee since its inception. All colleges and universities run under the trust's name are directly under his control. The investigation revealed that the trust displayed meteoric rise, but this growth did not match actual earnings. Contracts for construction, catering, and other services were awarded directly to companies owned by his wife and children. Several shell companies were also involved. Crores of rupees in "proceeds of crime" (illegal earnings) were generated and laundered through numerous shell companies.
11.On November 18, raids were conducted at 19 locations in Delhi, including Al-Falah University as well as the homes of Javed Siddiqui and other related individuals.
