The fruit and vegetable market at Zazna in Ganderbal has been badly hit as the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for the last eight days, leaving hundreds of apple-laden trucks stranded. Growers said their livelihood depends on horticulture, but due to the frequent closures, apples are getting damaged and losses are mounting. They urged the government to find a permanent solution to the issue and suggested making use of rail services for transporting fruit. Meanwhile, the growers welcomed the authorities’ decision to allow Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) on the highway today and expressed hope that Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) would also be permitted soon, ensuring their produce reaches markets on time.
