The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has announced change in flight operations in summer schedule at Amritsar Airport due to scheduled runway recarpeting, RESA, AGL & ILCMS works. As per the issued NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), the runway will remain non-operational daily from 13:45 hours to 21:45 hours during the recarpeting period. This restriction will be effective from 01 April 2026 to 27 September 2026. During this period, no flight operations will take place between 13:45 hrs and 21:45 hrs. All airlines have already revised the flight schedule for arrivals and departures accordingly. Flights will operate beyond the notified closure window, in compliance with the NOTAM. There are 62 flights at Amritsar Airport in summer schedule (40 Domestic) and (22 International). Amritsar Airport is connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Kullu, Srinagar, Pune in domestic Route and Doha, Dubai, Singapore, Birmingham, London Gatwick, Kuala Lumpur, Sharjah, Bangkok in international Route. Passengers are requested to check with their respective airlines for updated flight schedules before planning their travel and to allow sufficient time for any changes. The following works are to be carried out during the NOTAM period: Re-carpeting of Runway – SGRDJI Airport has 3658 mtr. Length runway to accommodate Category E type of the aircraft. Presently wide-bodied critical aircraft like Boeing 747-800 are operating from Amritsar to Qatar, Singapore & Birmingham/Gatwick etc. The surface needs runway recarpeting for smooth & safe operation of the Aircraft. This is mandatorily required for the safety of the passengers. The runway re-carpeting work was planned last year in April 2025 also but due to certain administrative reasons, the work could not be taken up. Now AAI has decided to take up the Runway Re-carpeting work in 02 layers having 50 mm thick each. The entire width of 60 mtr. of Runway shall be taken up on each day. After re-carpeting work, the runway will be opened daily at 21:45 hrs. restoring all the facilities and visual aids for aircraft operations. This process shall continue every day from 13:45 hrs. to 21:45 hrs. from 01.04.2026 to 27.09.2026. In addition to above, overrun portion shall also be recarpeted for smooth landing and take-off of the aircraft during any eventuality of overshoot or undershoot situation of the aircraft. RESA work – The runway end safety area (RESA) on both sides of the runway 16 & 34 shall be modified and developed in line of guidelines issued by Indian Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) AGL lights – The Amritsar Airport is classified as CAT-III airport, where aircrafts can land and take-off in dense fog & low visibility also. Presently there are more than 2000 non-LED airfield ground lights (AGL) on the runway at Amritsar Airport. The existing lights shall be replaced with LED lights, which are energy consumption efficient, having more flux value. The light fittings shall consist essentially with an optical system with LED, long life more than 50000 hours at full brilliancy, laying of airfield lighting cable for reconfiguration/interleaving of various existing/new surfaces. Since the work shall be executed on an operational runway, are to be planned in such a way that airfield lighting system is made available for operation on day-to-day basis as per NOTAM schedules. ILCMS work – Individual light control monitoring system (ILCMS) is mandatorily requirement for CAT-III lighting system. Presently during low visibility, more than 2000 AGL lights are physically checked at Runway before landing of every aircraft at Amritsar Airport. The checking of AGL takes around 30 minutes. The provision of ILCMS will upgrade and cover complete AGL system components including runway centreline lights, turn pad centreline lights, touch zone lights, stop bar lights, threshold lights, runway edge lights, runway end lights, elevated turn pad lights, approach lights, taxiway centreline lights, intermediate holding position lights, apron stand manoeuvring and stop bar lights etc. The AGL console shall be available in power house control room & ATC to monitor the unserviceability of any light, which will substitute the physical checking and save around 30 minutes for clearing any landing of the aircraft in low visibility at Amritsar Airport. The identified lights in ILCMS LED console shall be rectified without lapse of time, which will increase the runway capacity and will help in smooth and safe operation of the aircrafts at Amritsar Airport. The above works are essential to ensure the safety of passengers and aircraft, as well as the long-term operational efficiency of the runway and airfield at Amritsar Airport. Amritsar Airport is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and service quality for all its users. Every effort is being made to minimize inconvenience during this period through careful planning and coordination. The inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted, and the cooperation and understanding of passengers and all stakeholders are kindly solicited.
