TELANGANA Adilabad Delhi–UP Cyber Link Exposed in Adilabad Crackdown, 1500 Old Phones Seized. In a major breakthrough, Adilabad district police busted an interstate cyber fraud network with links to Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and arrested four persons, including a minor. Around 1500 second-hand mobile phones and electronic parts were seized during the operation. The arrests were made on Sunday at about 4 pm during vehicle checking at NTR Chowk. Acting on suspicion, police stopped the accused while they were heading towards the Adilabad bus stand carrying two bags filled with old and scrap mobile phones. The arrested accused include Mohammad Irfan (29) from North East Delhi, Sahil (25) from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Anas (20), and a 17-year-old juvenile from East Delhi. ‘’the gang had been operating in Adilabad for some time. They were buying old mobile phones at very low prices from local people. Many did not know how their devices would be misused,” SP Akhil Mahajan said. Police investigation revealed a clear Delhi–UP connection and a well-planned modus operandi. The accused would purchase used phones, dismantle them, and remove key components such as motherboards, batteries and sockets. They allegedly extracted IMEI numbers and customer data from the devices. Using this data, members of the network would pose as bank officials and contact victims, mainly from other states. By convincing them to share OTPs and banking details, they carried out cyber fraud. The remaining scrap and unusable parts were transported back to contacts in Delhi for resale. Police also seized four mobile phones used by the accused for communication along with the large stock of old devices and components. SP Mahajan warned the public not to sell mobile phones to unknown persons. “Your old phone can be used for cybercrime even from another state. You may unknowingly get linked to criminal activity,” he said. Further investigation is underway to trace other members of the interstate network.
