A massive but peaceful protest was held in the Chattabal area of Srinagar after Friday prayers today. The protest took place near the historic Imambargah where hundreds of people, including women, children and elderly citizens, gathered to express their views. The protest was led by prominent Shia leader Masroor Abbas Ansari, who addressed the gathering and raised concerns over several issues. During his address, Ansari strongly condemned the closure of Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid on the occasion of Jumat-ul-Vida, calling it unfortunate and saying that people should be allowed to offer prayers peacefully. Participants in the protest raised slogans and voiced their concerns while maintaining discipline and calm throughout the gathering. Security arrangements in the area remained tight, with Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF personnel deployed in large numbers to maintain law and order. Officials closely monitored the situation to ensure the protest remained peaceful. Despite the large turnout, the demonstration concluded without any untoward incident. After the protest ended at the Imambargah premises, people dispersed peacefully. Authorities said the situation remained under control and normalcy continued in the surrounding areas.
