Srinagar | Jasif Khan, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Nationalist People’s Front (JKNPF), on Tuesday reacted to the recently presented Budget and raised serious concerns over the alleged harassment of shawl vendors in parts of the Valley. He also welcomed union Home Minister Amit Shah’s upcoming visit to Jammu and Kashmir, expressing hope that key public issues would be addressed. In a statement issued to the media, Jasif Khan said the Budget carries certain positive provisions, but stressed that its real success would depend on effective implementation at the grassroots level. He urged the government to ensure that the benefits reach common people, especially youth, small traders, and marginalized sections. Reacting strongly to reports of harassment of shawl vendors, Khan said such actions are unacceptable and deeply hurt the livelihood of thousands of families associated with the traditional shawl trade. “Shawl vending is not just a business; it is part of Kashmir’s cultural and economic fabric. Any form of harassment or unnecessary restrictions on vendors must stop immediately,” he said, calling on the administration to act sensitively and protect small traders. Regarding union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir, the JKNPF president welcomed the move and termed it an important opportunity. He said the visit should be used to listen to public grievances, address unemployment, ensure dignity for traders and workers, and restore confidence among the people. “We hope this visit brings concrete relief on the ground and strengthens trust between the administration and the people,” Khan added. Jasif Khan further appealed for peace, dialogue, and inclusive development, emphasizing that stability and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir can only be achieved by safeguarding livelihoods, respecting local sentiments, and ensuring justice for all sections of society.
