All Party Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina today held a press conference at his office in Huzuri Bagh, Srinagar, over the issue related to the proposed name change from Mahatma Gandhi to V B Ramji. Addressing the media, Raina said that Mahatma Gandhi’s name carries historic, moral, and national significance, and any move to replace or alter it has created concern among different sections of society. He stressed that such decisions should be taken with broad consensus and sensitivity, keeping public sentiment in mind. The APSCC Chairman appealed to the authorities to review the decision and avoid actions that may lead to unnecessary controversy or hurt sentiments. He emphasized that respect for national icons must be maintained while ensuring harmony and unity in society.
