Ganderbal, Dec 22: Fresh snowfall in the higher reaches and rainfall in the plains across the Kashmir Valley have brought cheer to the people of Ganderbal, particularly those associated with agriculture and horticulture. Residents said the precipitation has ended a prolonged dry spell, raising hopes for a better agricultural season. They noted that snowfall helps curb the spread of several crop-related diseases and plays a vital role in recharging drinking water sources and irrigation systems needed during the summer months. Locals further said that snow and rain are closely linked to livelihoods in the region, as agriculture and horticulture remain the backbone of the local economy. A local resident said the entire Kashmir Valley is happy with the change in weather. “The prolonged dry spell has finally broken. This snowfall and rainfall are crucial for our livelihoods, especially for farmers and orchardists,” he said.
