Social activist and Chairman of the J&K Peace Forum, Satish Mahaldar, led a delegation that met with Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to discuss the long-standing issue of the Kashmiri Pandit community, whose mass exodus took place in the 1990s. Speaking after the meeting, Satish said he was assured by Mirwaiz that the matter would be raised with the government to address the community’s sufferings and facilitate their rehabilitation, restoring the peace and coexistence they enjoyed more than three decades ago. Satish further noted that Mirwaiz emphasized the importance of holding interfaith and inter-community conferences, bringing together Kashmiri Muslims, Kashmiri Pandits, Sikhs and Buddhists. The proposed gatherings would initially take place in Kashmir and subsequently in other parts of the country where Kashmiri Pandits have settled.
