Members of the All Daily Wagers J&K Sangarsh Samiti, including the Kupwara District Cook union (Department of Education), staged a protest demonstration at Chinar Park Handwara on Thursday, demanding implementation of the Minimum Wages Act and regularisation of their services. The protesters expressed strong resentment over what they termed as prolonged government apathy towards their genuine demands. “We have been serving for years without any job security or fair wages. The government’s silence has pushed our families into financial distress,” said one of the protesters. Another protester remarked, “We are not asking for anything extraordinary — only what we rightfully deserve under the law. The Minimum Wages Act must be implemented in letter and spirit.” Urging the administration to act swiftly, the protestors demanded regularisation of their services and strict enforcement of minimum wage laws across Jammu and Kashmir. They also appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Education Minister Sakina Itoo to personally intervene and resolve the long-pending issues of daily wagers without further delay.
