Stringer...............Bhat Shahzad Location...............Bandipora 2309ZS_BPR_VARIETIES_R Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai Stresses Adoption of High-Yielding Varieties in Gurez Anchor:-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Gurez today organized an input distribution programme under the Tribal Sub-Plan at Korkbal Village in Gurez. Tribal farmers of the village received agricultural tools during the programme. Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that under the Tribal Sub-Plan, efforts are being made for the upliftment of tribal populations in Gurez, which remains cut off for about six months in a year. He highlighted the use of new technology for vegetable cultivation and stressed the need for adoption and dissemination of high-yielding, university-released varieties of seeds. Prof. Ganai said that the varieties released by SKUAST-K are climate resilient, less susceptible to diseases, and can tolerate adverse weather conditions. He also briefed the farmers about the role of SKUAST-K in agricultural research to support the farming community in the valley.
