Good Governance Week Kickstarted in Baramulla with an Insightful Seminar at GDC Baramulla As part of the nationwide campaign to promote transparency, accountability and citizen-centric administration, Good Governance Week was today kickstarted across District Baramulla with an insightful seminar held at the Conference Hall of Government Boys Degree College (GDC), Baramulla. The seminar was presided over by Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, Retired IAS Officer, and was attended by Principal GDC Boys’ Baramulla, Dr. Mohd Shafi Lone; Dr. Khursheed Alam, Professor IMPARD; Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalko, Assistant Commissioner Revenue; Arshad Ahmad Khan, District Information Officer; Iftakhar Naseem, besides faculty members, students and other officers and officials. The programme marked the beginning of a week-long series of activities aimed at strengthening the interface between the administration and the public, ensuring responsive governance, transparency and timely delivery of public services. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone emphasized that good governance is reflected in the prompt, transparent and efficient resolution of public grievances. He stressed that officers must remain easily accessible to citizens, listen to their concerns with empathy and ensure time-bound delivery of services to build public trust in governance institutions. During the panel discussion, speakers highlighted the core objectives of Good Governance Week, which include effective grievance redressal, transparency in decision-making, accountability of public institutions and enhanced public outreach, particularly in rural and remote areas. The session also deliberated on special initiatives planned during the week, including grievance redressal camps, outreach programmes under “Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore”, awareness drives, public interactions and on-the-spot resolution of public issues. In addition to the district-level programme, similar Good Governance Week activities were organized across Sub-Divisional and Block levels of District Baramulla, wherein Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Block Development Officers (BDOs) and other district and sectoral officers presided over awareness programmes, public interactions and grievance redressal sessions to directly engage with citizens at the grassroots level. The speakers also elaborated on various governance reforms being implemented by the government and underscored the importance of active citizen participation in ensuring the successful execution of these initiatives, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to transparent, accountable and people-centric governance across the district.
