Army’s 4 Rashtriya Rifles unit based at Bhaderwah has launched Project Roshni under Operation Sadbhavana. Under this initiative, solar search lights were distributed among dozens of families residing in the remote and forested Dugga Valley in Additional District Bhaderwah. With an aim to bring light and safety to far-flung areas, the 4 Rashtriya Rifles unit of the Indian Army organized a special distribution drive under Project Roshni in Dugga Valley and its adjoining hamlets of Additional District Bhaderwah. The initiative aims to provide solar search lights to families living near dense forests — an area that often plunges into darkness during harsh winters due to frequent power cuts. Commanding Officer Colonel Yogesh Chouhan, along with Ex-Sarpanch of Jalga Kuldeep Manhas, Army officers, and local representatives, personally distributed the lights to dozens of households. The move is expected to enhance night-time safety and vigilance against wild animals and anti-national elements who exploit the darkness in these remote stretches. Col Yogesh Chouhan: “These solar search lights will help villagers keep wild animals away and will also assist them in keeping a close watch during long winter nights. Our aim is to ensure their safety and strengthen our bond with the people.” The villagers expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Army for their compassionate gesture. They said that these lights will be a boon during winters when snowfall often disrupts electricity supply for days together. Ex Sarpanch Jalga, Kuldeep Manhas: said “This initiative by the Army will go a long way in safeguarding villagers and in building a stronger bond between the people and the forces.” Villagers (women): said “In winters, electricity remains off due to heavy snowfall, but now these solar lights will help us stay safe and connected even during dark nights.” Under Project Roshni, the Indian Army continues its commitment to community welfare and nation-building — lighting up not just homes, but also hearts in the remote Dugga Valley. The Army is also helping locals by organizing free medical and veterinary camps, constructing bridges, assisting flood-affected families and many other means. A small step by the Army that has brought a big change in the lives of people living in the shadow of the forest. Indeed, Project Roshni is a shining example of how the Indian Army continues to illuminate lives beyond the battlefield.
