Slug-2710ZS_BHD_OLIVE_CUP_R By Raja Rehber Jamal Location-Bhaderwah ANCHOR: With an aim to provide a platform for youth and channel their energy towards positive activities, the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles unit based at Bhaderwah has organized a mega cricket tournament — ‘Olive Green Cup’ — which commenced today under Operation Sadhbhavana. VO: The opening ceremony was held at the Sports Ground of Government Degree College Bhaderwah with great enthusiasm and participation. Commander 9 Sector, Brigadier Sunil Mishra, along with Colonel Yogesh Chouhan, Commanding Officer 4 Rashtriya Rifles, SSP Doda Sandeep Mehta, ADC Bhaderwah Sunil Kumar Bhutiyal, BMO Dr. Varsha Sharma, and other dignitaries inaugurated the event. Noted educationist Arif Rana anchored the inauguration ceremony. SDPO Bhaderwah Shoket Ali, SHO Bhaderwah Suresh Gautam, Ex President Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah Abdul Hafiz, YAC President Naseer Mehboob and others also participated in the event. The inaugural match was played between Khonkhaar 4RR and Bhaderwah Administration XI. After winning the toss, Khonkhaar 4RR opted to bowl first. Batting first, Bhaderwah Administration XI posted a challenging total of 231 runs in 20 overs. In reply, Khonkhaar 4RR managed to score 176 runs for the loss of 9 wickets, handing Bhaderwah Administration XI a 55-run victory in the opening encounter. Radiff Nazir and Shiv Dutt of Bhaderwah Administration XI scored 95 and 74 runs respectively. While from Khonkhaar 4RR, Biswajeet Sahu and Sajan contributed 53 and 21 runs respectively. While addressing the participants, Brigadier Sunil Mishra said that the initiative is aimed at providing a meaningful platform for youth to showcase their sporting talent and stay away from negative influences. He added that the one and half month-long tournament, featuring over 70 teams, is being organized to promote local talent and encourage a drug-free society under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. VO: The tournament will be held in three phases — with matches currently underway in Bhaderwah involving teams from Bhaderwah, Chirala, and Marmat. The second phase will be held in Gandoh and Doda, culminating in the final round featuring 12 top teams from across District Doda. Brigadier Mishra also thanked the civil administration, police, and Bhaderwah Development Authority for their cooperation and appreciated CO 4RR Colonel Yogesh Chouhan for organizing the event on such a grand scale. VO: Meanwhile, a pledge under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was also taken during the inauguration ceremony. Dignitaries, players, and spectators joined together to reaffirm their commitment towards a drug-free and progressive society.
