Ganderbal: A fire incident in the Buserbugh Alestang area of Ganderbal on Monday damaged residential property and shops, triggering panic among the residents. Fire and Emergency Services personnel, police post nagbal and locals, managed to bring the flames under control and prevented the fire from spreading to nearby structures. Locals, however, expressed strong resentment over the delay in the arrival of fire tenders. They said the fire services had to come from Ganderbal and Hazratbal, which is a long distance from the area, causing a late response. “We have been demanding a nearby fire station for years. Today’s incident clearly shows how crucial it is. Had the fire station been close, the damage could have been minimised,” said a local resident. Residents have urged the government to set up a fire and emergency station in the area to ensure timely response during emergencies.
