Badgam,
After a phase of uncertainty following the Pahalgam attack, Kashmir is once again witnessing a powerful revival of tourism — and with it, a return of smiles, confidence, and hope on local faces. From the serene waters of Dal Lake to the lively streets of Srinagar, from the snow-kissed meadows to bustling marketplaces, the Valley today is echoing with the sounds of life, laughter, and livelihood. This is not just the return of tourists — this is the return of normalcy, faith, and economic stability for thousands of families. Tourism, often described as the lifeline of Kashmir, is once again breathing life into the Valley. Houseboats — the floating heritage of Kashmir —which once stood silent and empty, are now fully booked. Beautifully carved wooden houseboats on Dal and Nigeen Lakes are once again hosting tourists from across India and abroad. For houseboat owners, this revival is more than business it is survival, dignity, and pride restored. Many owners say there were days when they struggled to meet daily expenses, but today, with tourists returning in large numbers, hope has finally anchored back in their lives. The same story of revival is reflected on the shimmering waters of Dal Lake. Shikara owners, who depend entirely on tourism, are busy from early morning till late evening. Shikaras glide gracefully across the lake, carrying tourists eager to soak in Kashmir’s unmatched beauty the mountains, the reflections, the calm. For the Shikara walas, this is not just a ride it is a journey back to stability. Many say they are finally earning enough again to educate their children, support their families, and live with dignity. The tourism boom is not limited to lakes and houseboats alone. Across Kashmir, cab drivers, tour guides, hotel staff, and tour and travel operators are back on the move. Taxi stands that once looked deserted are now bustling with activity. Travel agencies are reporting heavy booking rush, and hotels across Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg are witnessing high occupancy rates. For thousands of daily wage earners, this resurgence has come as a lifeline. Local markets are buzzing again. Handicraft sellers, shawl vendors, dry fruit traders, and street vendors say tourists are spending freely, giving a much-needed boost to the local economy. Traditional Kashmiri art, handloom, papier-mâché, and woodcraft items are once again finding buyers. This flow of tourists is not only reviving businesses but also creating employment opportunities for the youth, offering them hope within their homeland. Residents across Kashmir are calling this tourism surge a ray of hope after challenging times. They say it proves one thing very clearly — that peace, hospitality, and natural beauty continue to attract visitors to the Valley. Despite past setbacks, Kashmir’s warmth remains unchanged. Tourists are being welcomed with open hearts, traditional smiles, and unmatched hospitality reinforcing Kashmir’s image as a land of culture, tradition, and brotherhood. “Tourism is our lifeline. Its return means bread on our table and smiles in our homes.” These words reflect the emotions of thousands of families whose lives are directly linked to tourism. What we are witnessing today is not just a tourism revival it is a story of resilience. A story of people who refused to lose hope. A story of Kashmir standing tall again. Happy tourists, confident locals, busy streets, full hotels, and vibrant markets are painting a picture of positivity and peace. Once again, Kashmir is shining as one of India’s top travel destinations. Once again, the Valley is sending a powerful message to the world that it is open, welcoming, and thriving. As tourism returns, Kashmir turns a new chapter a chapter of prosperity, positivity, and peace. For the people of Kashmir, this boom is not just about visitors it is about life returning to normal.
