Sopore, Sept 8: The Asia’s second-largest fruit market, Sopore Fruit Mandi, will remain closed on September 9 and 10 due to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. President of Sopore Fruit Mandi, Fayaz Ahmad Malik, (Kaka Ji) said the decision was taken after a general meeting with traders and stakeholders. “The highway closure has disrupted fruit transportation, leaving us with no option but to suspend mandi operations for two days,” he said. The Sopore Fruit Mandi serves as a vital hub connecting apple growers from Kashmir with markets across India. The temporary shutdown is expected to hit both traders and growers, once again highlighting the region’s heavy dependence on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway for economic activities.
