वेल्लोर में 60 फुट ऊँचा रथ पलटने से 7 घायल, प्रशासन ने जांच शुरू

A 60-foot temple chariot overturned during the Mayana Kollai festival in Vellore, leaving 7 people seriously injured. They have been admitted to the government hospital for treatment. Officials including the District Collector and Superintendent of Police inspected the accident site. The District Collector personally met the injured and inquired about their health. An inquiry into the accident has been ordered. One of the major festivals of Vellore district, Tamilnadu, the Mayana Kollai celebration, took place last night on the banks of the Palar River in Vellore. During the festival, deities (Amman) from 10 villages were decorated, taken in chariots to the river, and ritual offerings were made. After the rituals ended, around midnight, a nearly 60-foot-tall chariot that had come from Kazhinjoor near Katpadi was being pulled from the riverbank onto the road when it suddenly lost balance and tilted sideways. Ten people who were on the chariot got trapped beneath it, and 7 of them suffered serious injuries. Police and local residents rescued them and sent the injured to the government hospital. At the accident site, Subbulakshmi (District Collector), Sivaraman (SP), and Senthilkumar (RDO) inspected the situation in person and gathered details about the incident. The Collector ordered the police to investigate and instructed the festival committee to ensure such mishaps do not occur in the future. She also visited the injured who are undergoing treatment at the Vellore Government Medical College Hospital and enquired about their health. Later, only the Amman idol from the fallen chariot was recovered, and the villagers of Kazhinjoor took it back to their village. Although government rules state that chariots must not exceed 12 feet in height, during the Mayana Kollai festival, chariots from Virudhambattu, Kazhinjoor, and Mottur are each about 60 feet tall. It is also noteworthy that in 2023, the chariot from Mottur village similarly fell into the Palar River and met with an accident.
