Drone lands in residential area due to low visibility On January 29, 2026, New Space Research and Technologies Private Limited was conducting a routine research and development test at its leased premises when the lightweight research drone experienced a battery malfunction. Due to this, the drone went beyond the leased premises and landed in the 'Muslim area' of Doddaballapur in Bengaluru. The centrally controlled company was initially unable to locate the drone due to poor Global Positioning System (GPS) signal. The company officials did not undertake immediate search activities as it was dark. Later, after receiving information through the 112-emergency helpline, the police reached the spot Arrived and seized the drone. The police had served notices to the drone company officials on January 30. Officials of New Space Research and Technologies Private Limited arrived at the police station and explained to the police the circumstances that led to the drone landing in a residential area. They informed the police that New Space Research and Technologies Private Limited is a licensed drone research and training institute operating under the control of the Director General of Civil Aviation. Inspector Sadiq Pasha has shown “excessive interest”, the Karnataka High Court has directed him to file an affidavit. The court took note of the allegation made by the petitioner’s counsel that Inspector Sadiq Pasha had shown excessive interest in the case despite showing valid licenses and documents. Inspector Pasha wanted the managing director of Newspace Research and Technologies to come to the police station and reveal details of the number of employees working in the company, income, turnover and other information. The police officer made the officials of the drone company sit for six hours. The court asked them to file an affidavit in relation to the statements made in the application The order was issued to Inspector Sadiq Pasha. The court said that necessary action will be taken if he fails to comply with the direction. The bench directed Pasha to submit an explanation through the Station House Officer (SHO) of Doddaballapur Rural Police Station by the next date of hearing of the case. Till then, the court stayed all coercive measures against the petitioner and granted interim relief to the Bengaluru-based company.
