Andhra Pradesh: An elderly man, accompanied by two assistants, approached doctors and staff at the Guntur Government Hospital requesting treatment. Seeing his shabby clothes, stick in hand, and an old towel used as a mask, the doctors referred him for a few medical tests. The man then visited various departments, observed stray dogs roaming the corridors, listened to the staff’s responses near the ICUs, and inspected the pharmacy. For over an hour, he moved around the hospital, conducting surprise checks. That “elderly man” was none other than the hospital’s Superintendent, Dr. SSV Ramana, in disguise. He carried out sudden night inspections at the GGH. Dressed in a lungi and mask, he entered the hospital anonymously to understand what was really happening inside. Following recent complaints about sanitation, staff behaviour, and quality of medical services, he personally inspected the situation. It is learned that he identified several lapses.
