Hyderabad: AIMIM President Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi has appealed to Union Minister for External Affairs S. Jaishankar to rescue Mohammed Ahmed, a Hyderabad native, and three other Indians who were allegedly duped by job agents and forcibly recruited into the Russian Army to fight in the Russia–Ukraine war. Mohammed Ahmed, a resident of Khairatabad, travelled to Russia in April 2025 after being promised a construction job by an agent based in Mumbai. However, upon arrival, he was allegedly taken to a remote training camp and forced to sign a one-year contract with the Russian military. In a video message shared with his family, Ahmed said that he and several other Indians were coerced into joining the army and threatened with death if they refused. Ahmed’s family met Owaisi after meeting Ahmed’s family, urged the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian Embassy in Moscow to intervene on humanitarian grounds and secure their safe release. The Indian Embassy in Moscow has confirmed that it is in touch with Russian authorities and has requested early discharge and repatriation of the stranded Indians. According to official sources, over 120 Indians have been recruited into the Russian Army in recent months, many through fraudulent job offers, with the MEA confirming ongoing efforts to bring them home. The case highlights the urgent need for stricter regulation of overseas job agents and enhanced awareness among job seekers to prevent such exploitation.
