Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Ali Khatana visited Shahre Khaas, the commercial heart of old Srinagar, where he conducted an extensive review of the business situation and interacted with traders and representatives of trade bodies. In a detailed meeting with Bashir Ahmed Kenu, Chairman of Shahre Khaas Traders Chamber, Khatana listened to the grievances of the business community, highlighting the massive debt burden of around ₹26,000 crore faced by local traders, disparities in GST rates on raw materials, and the need for relaxation in income tax notices issued before 2019. Khatana assured the Centre of its concern for traders and commitment to redressal, but emphasized that meaningful change requires active participation of the state government in addressing local concerns and ensuring sustainable economic growth.
