Srinagar,
All Party Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina has expressed strong dissatisfaction and anguish over the budget presented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, terming it “disappointing, directionless, and a repetition of old promises with nothing new for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
In a sharp reaction, Jagmohan Singh Raina said that while the Chief Minister spoke at length about tourism, horticulture, agriculture, power sector, casual labourers and daily wagers, the budget failed to provide any concrete roadmap, financial clarity, or fresh initiatives to address the ground realities.
“This budget is nothing but an old document in a new cover. There is no vision, no innovation, and no serious effort to address unemployment, rising inflation, or the genuine hardships faced by common people,” Raina said.
He further stated that sectors like tourism and horticulture, which are considered the backbone of the region’s economy, have been mentioned only in theory, without any practical policy support or long-term planning.
Expressing concern for casual labourers and daily wagers, Raina said that mere assurances without time-bound commitments have become a routine practice.
“Daily wagers and casual labourers have been suffering for years. Repeating the same statements without announcing concrete regularisation policies or financial relief is an injustice to those who keep the system running,” he added.
Jagmohan Singh Raina also criticized the lack of focus on power reforms, youth employment, minority welfare, and inflation control, saying the budget does not reflect the aspirations of the people.
“People expected relief, stability, and hope from this budget. Unfortunately, it offers none. This budget neither addresses present challenges nor prepares Jammu and Kashmir for the future,” he said.
The APSCC Chairman urged the government to revisit its priorities, engage with all stakeholders, and come up with people-centric policies instead of recycling outdated announcements.
“Jammu and Kashmir deserves a bold, inclusive, and forward-looking budget—not a recycled one,” Raina concluded.
