Anchor : In a significant initiative to strengthen electoral awareness and promote informed democratic participation, the District Administration Ramban organised a mega awareness programme under the flagship SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) campaign.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from officers, students, stakeholders and people from all walks of life, reflecting a strong collective commitment towards fostering responsible voting behaviour.
The event was graced by Sanjeev Verma, Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, as the Chief Guest, while Mohammad Alyas Khan, District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner) Ramban, presided over the function.
Also present on the occasion were Arun Gupta, SSP Ramban; Varunjeet Singh Charak, Additional Deputy Commissioner; Salam Din, Deputy Director Information, Office of CEO J&K (SVEEP Nodal Officer); Sayed Mazahir Hussain Shah, Dy. DEO Ramban; Showkat Hayat Mattoo, ACR Ramban; Mohammad Naseeb Bajran, SDM Banihal, besides senior district officers and officials associated with election management and awareness initiatives.
Chairperson District Development Council Ramban Dr. Shamshad Shan, along with other DDC members, also graced the occasion.
The programme commenced with the National Anthem, followed by a welcome address by the Deputy Commissioner. A voters’ pledge was administered by the ADC, encouraging ethical voting, inclusivity and active participation in the electoral process.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Electoral Officer lauded the efforts of the District Election Officer Ramban and his team for achieving nearly 90 percent SIR coverage in the district and urged them to strive for 100 percent coverage at the earliest. He emphasised the importance of sustained voter awareness campaigns in strengthening democracy and called upon citizens, particularly the youth, to actively participate in elections.
The District Election Officer reiterated the administration’s commitment to enhancing voter participation through continuous outreach programmes, awareness drives and facilitation measures across the district. He also briefed the gathering about ongoing SVEEP activities, highlighting sustained efforts to promote electoral literacy and strengthen democratic values at the grassroots level.
During the programme, several awareness activities were organised to engage different sections of society. Students participated in indoor games and debate sessions on the electoral process, underscoring the importance of youth engagement in democracy.
Informative presentations, screening of voter awareness videos and a lecture on “Healthy Voter, Healthy Democracy” highlighted the role of informed citizens in strengthening democratic institutions.
Cultural performances by local artists and a nukkad natak added vibrancy to the event while effectively conveying the message of voter awareness. Special emphasis was laid on motivating first-time voters, women voters and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) to participate in elections without hesitation.
The Chief Electoral Officer also felicitated outstanding BLOs, AEROs, EROs and other officials for their contributions to electoral management. Newly enrolled young voters were encouraged and provided voter ID cards and certificates, while PwD voters were also facilitated to ensure inclusivity and recognition of their participation.
Earlier, the Chief Electoral Officer participated in a plantation drive and a signature campaign symbolising citizens’ commitment to democracy.
He also inspected stalls set up by various departments showcasing their schemes, activities and voter awareness initiatives.
