Security forces on Friday continued the anti-terror operation in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district for the third consecutive day, following the killing of a terrorist in an encounter on Wednesday. Officials said a massive cordon-and-search operation remains underway after one terrorist was killed in an exchange of fire with joint teams of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF on Wednesday. Joint teams comprising the Indian Army, 2nd Para Commandos, Jammu and Kashmir Police, SOG, and CRPF continued intensive operations on Friday. Dense forest areas, covered with snow, remain under tight cordon while extensive searches are being carried out. To neutralize the threat in the thickly forested terrain, drone-based bombing is being conducted at suspected locations as part of the ongoing Operation TRASHI-I. In addition, commandos of the elite 2nd Para unit have been airdropped into the forest area to track down terrorists believed to be hiding there. Heavy deployment of security forces has been made to ensure effective area domination and to sustain the intensive anti-terror operation. The terrorist killed in Wednesday’s encounter was identified as Adil, a top operative of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit, who was active in the region. Adil was reportedly a close aide of JeM commander Saifullah. According to reports, there is a strong possibility that JeM commander Saifullah, along with two other terrorists, may also be trapped in the cordoned and one terrorist is said to be injured during the ongoing operation.
