Case against Hindu monk for calling Muslim companion of Lord Ayyappa a 'terrorist' - Kerala police have registered a case against Saanthananda Maharshi for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Vavar, the Muslim companion of Lord Ayyappa. The remarks sparked controversy, hurting sentiments and raising communal concerns.- He reportedly said, “Vavar does not have relation with Lord Ayyappa and he came to attack Ayyappa. Vavar is a terrorist who came forward to defeat Ayyappa in a war. He should not be prayed to.” The Pandalam police have filed a case against Shantananda Maharshi, the head of the Sreeramadasa Mission, for allegedly portraying Vavar negatively. The case has been registered under non-bailable sections. During the Sabarimala protection meeting organized by Hindu organizations in Pantalam as an alternative to the Global Ayyappa Summit, Shantananda Maharshi stated that Vavar is a terrorist and a Muslim attacker. The complaint was filed by Anoop VR, a Congress media spokesperson, and Pradeep Varma, a family member of the Pantalam Palace, highlighting Shantananda's speech. Pradeep Varma's complaint alleges that Shantananda Maharshi portrayed Vavar Swami poorly. The Pandalam Ayyappa temple and palace lead the pilgrimage acknowledging the connection between Ayyappa and Vavar. The complaint urged legal action against the hate speech. The complaint also noted that the speech would disrupt Hindu-Muslim harmony in Pantalam, as raised by Pradeep Varma, a member of the CPI(M) Pandalam area committee. It indicated that the speech tarnished faith and incited rivalry among religious groups, as pointed out by the Congress leader's complaint. Shantananda Maharshi stated in his speech that Vavar is someone who came to attack and defeat Ayyappa. He claimed that Vavar's history is flawed, asserting that Vapuran, or the ghost of Shiva, is the correct representation. He emphasized that devotees should have the opportunity to offer coconuts at the feet of Vapur Swami to have a vision of Ayyappa, stating that this is the reason for the establishment of the Vapur Swami temple in Erumeli. Meanwhile, the Pandalam police stated they are examining the controversy and taking necessary action. The organizers believe the incident is merely a reaction to the Global Ayyappa Summit's disruption. Shatananda Maharshi mentioned that without Vavar, the followers are with Vapuran. Allegations have previously arisen that when the Devaswom Board collects all offerings from Shabarimala, the money at Vavar's temple goes to one family. Currently, construction is ongoing for the Vapur temple in Erumeli.
