Fresh Encounter Erupts in Chatroo Area of Kishtwar; Heavy Firing Ongoing, Internet Suspended Kishtwar, Feb 22: A fierce encounter broke out on Sunday between joint security forces and militants in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, triggering heavy exchange of fire and heightened security across the region. According to initial reports, joint teams of the Army, J&K Police and paramilitary forces launched a cordon and search operation in the forested belt of Chatroo following specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area. As the forces tightened the cordon, the hiding militants reportedly opened fire, leading to a gunfight which was continuing till the filing of this report. Sources said that a commander of the proscribed outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), identified as Saifullah, is believed to be trapped in the encounter site. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the identity of the militants involved.
