A month-long Chrysanthemum Show commenced at the Shalimar Campus of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K). Amidst a vibrant display of colors and festive ambience, Minister for Agriculture, Javed Ahmad Dar, formally inaugurated and threw open the Chrysanthemum Garden at the campus. The Minister was accompanied by MLA Sonawari, Mr. Hilal Akbar Lone, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, university officers, members of civil society, and a large gathering of the general public. The entire campus wore a colourful look as Chrysanthemums in diverse hues welcomed the guests, creating a spring-like atmosphere in the heart of autumn. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister appreciated SKUAST-K’s efforts in promoting floriculture and beautification initiatives, emphasizing that such endeavours not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the region but also hold potential for strengthening Jammu and Kashmir’s agri-economy. He added that as Chrysanthemums bloom in autumn, they bring vibrant colours to the fading landscape and can potentially extend the tourist season by several weeks, similar to how tulips attract early-spring visitors. Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, highlighted the university’s commitment to promoting floriculture-based entrepreneurship and seasonal tourism through innovative agricultural practices. The Chrysanthemum Show will remain open to visitors for a month, offering a delightful experience of Kashmir’s floral diversity and the spirit of autumn.
