Ganderbal,
A large quantity of pharmaceutical waste—reportedly worth several lakhs of rupees—was discovered dumped in a forest canal in the Gundrehman area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday, triggering alarm among residents and prompting swift action from authorities.
According to local sources, expired medicines were found scattered across the water body, creating concern about potential environmental and health hazards. The matter was immediately reported to the authorities by locals, following which a team from the Drug Control Department, Ganderbal, reached the site and began an investigation.
Drug Inspector Shah Hadiya, who visited the location, told media , “We have taken samples and started an investigation to trace the source. Strict action will be taken against those responsible.” She further emphasized that there are laid-down procedures for the safe disposal of expired medicines, and any deviation from those norms is a serious violation.
The Drug Control Department has assured that strict action will follow once those responsible are identified.
