Illegal roadside parking on the road leading to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Ganderbal has been causing serious inconvenience to residents of the Duderhama area. Locals alleged that vehicles are being parked on both sides of the road and outside residential houses, resulting in frequent traffic congestion. Residents said that in case of emergencies such as fire incidents or medical situations, the narrow road would not allow the movement of fire tenders or ambulances. They added that even local residents face difficulty in taking out their own vehicles due to continuous roadside parking on the main road and adjoining link roads. Following multiple complaints, DySP Traffic Ganderbal Gulzar Ahmad took strict action against traffic violators. Speaking to the media, he said several vehicles were found illegally parked on the road leading towards the Mini Secretariat, Ganderbal. “Such vehicles were challaned and their owners were strictly warned. Parking on roads can create serious problems during emergencies,” he said. The DySP further informed that sufficient designated parking facilities are already available near Hospital Road and the DC Office premises. “Despite adequate parking space, some people continue to violate traffic norms. Strict action will be taken against repeat violators to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety,” he added. Residents have welcomed the action and appealed to the authorities to maintain strict enforcement to avoid recurrence of the problem.
