Ganderbal Mar 24: The Faculty/Departmental Affairs Committee (DAC) on March 22, 2026, held a meeting in the office of the Head of the Department to deliberate on issues related to the syllabi of the One-Year and Two-Year M.A. Programmes in Political Science in accordance with the guidelines of NEP-2020. After detailed discussions, the Committee unanimously recommended to the Board of Studies the removal of topics related to Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Syed Ahmad Khan, and Muhammad Iqbal from the course content of PIPSTC-102 (One-Year Postgraduate Programme) and P2PSTC-302 (Two-Year Postgraduate Programme) in Political Science. Meanwhile, reacting to the development, PDP leader Keisar Sultan expressed concern over the controversy surrounding the proposed removal of these chapters from the academic curriculum in Jammu University. He said that education must not become a tool of political convenience, adding that any attempt to selectively erase parts of history to suit a particular narrative is deeply concerning and sets a dangerous precedent. “Nations grow stronger by confronting their history with honesty, not by rewriting it,” he said. Sultan further stated that while ideological differences with historical figures may exist, removing them from academic discourse does not serve the interests of students or society. He warned that such steps could promote “intellectual vandalism” and weaken the foundation of informed debate. He also urged academic institutions and policymakers to ensure that the curriculum remains balanced, inclusive, and factually accurate, while being mindful of public sentiment. “Education should empower young minds with knowledge and perspective, not limit them through selective omissions,” he added.
